Generating solar power with noise barriers along railways and highways is promising and can be widely applied. This is evident from the SONOB practice test (part of the project Solar Noise Barriers) which was conducted.
Generating solar power with noise barriers along railways and highways is promising and can be widely applied. This is evident from the SONOB practice test (part of the project Solar Noise Barriers) which was conducted. For one year, various solar technologies integrated noise barriers were tested in 's-Hertogenbosch.
About the research
The practice test launched in June last year and focused on gaining a better understanding of energy and technical feasibility of energy generating noise barriers. During a year, several solar technologies integrated into noise barriers were tested under different weather conditions and positions relative to the sun. The screens have also been tested for vandalism- and graffiti -resistance.
The SONOB project in 's-Hertogenbosch was carried out by Heijmans, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Van Campen Bayards, SEAC, Airbus, Defence and Space Netherlands and ECN and is sponsored by the Municipality of' s-Hertogenbosch, Willemspoort, SPARK campus, Economy Ministry and Scheuten.
